Call for Applications: Reporting Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria

The second cohort of Diaspora Africa‘s Migration Media Hub will center on Reporting Internal Displacements in Nigeria, in collaboration with IOM Nigeria and the Embassy of Sweden in Abuja. To learn more about the media hub: hub.diasporaafrica.org

We invite writers and journalists to apply. The training is established to support a new breed of young journalists across Africa. The training is scheduled for 18th September, 2025.

Course Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will:

  • Contribute to journalism, storytelling and reporting that caters to forced migration, especially in the case of displacement.
  • Learn an ethical and trauma-informed approach towards reporting on internally displaced people across Africa.
  • Access to a community of young journalists with an interest in forced displacement and migration themes. 
  • Leverage reliable information and resources to understand possible complexities relating to IDPs.

Who can apply?

The course is targeted at young (18-30) writers and journalists who fulfil the following criteria:

  • You are a writer or journalist
  • You are interested in migration
  • Must be based in Abuja, Nigeria to attend the physical training
  • Must be between 18-30 years of age
  • Must share a one page CV
  • Trainees are required to pitch & produce a story post-training


Location:
 Abuja, Nigeria

  • Abuja participants will receive transport stipends to support travel costs
  • Lunch will be served. Please indicate dietary restrictions in this application
  • Non-Abuja applicants should be willing to cover their transport and accommodation if selected
  • There is a virtual option for interested participants not based in Abuja
